  1. Civil engagement , is very important for future generation to continue to follow because it shows the motive of doing what you can to bring changes to the community you're from. In the article “ Group Welcomes Young Ideas” by Regina Medina it talks about how young organization group is the best because it sets an example to the other people whose growing up and in need of someone for them to look at as a role model. With young people gathering idea for the community they can really help the area for the future , this makes more sense because if a new policy is introduce the younger group are the one whos going to live during that event compare to someone else whos much older which they would probably support other beliefs that are not civic engagement because they didn’t grow up to think the same way as the generation from today. This article by Regina Medina connects to the article Chapter 34 We The People because they both connect to why is it beneficial to be more involved and for your voice to be heard in government decisions. Medina’s article is an example of voluntary associations which is connected to the Chapter 34 article. Voluntary association are examples of religious organization, social organization , service and business organization , non governmental organization , local government and state government. These are different actions that the people choose to make their voices be heard in either local situation such as community or world wide problems that other people are struggling in the nation. Philly.com is a credible source because is the major news reporting for the state of Philadelphia and is partner with Daily News which is a world wide well known news paper. Daily News helps edit any news that comes across and makes sure the story is credible for other readers in the world thats looking at the article. Regina Medina shows strong evidence in her article when she talks about the issue being discussed in an event called Community Engagement Night in which 150 participants including other organizations that revolves around Civics Engagement such as Greater Philadelphia cares , The Mayor’s office of Civic Engagement and Equality Philadelphia which is the most important because is basically the root or the host of Civic Engagement in Philly. Regina Medina and the author of Chapter 34 We The People , could use Medina’s article as a source to show an example of Civic Engagement in a local more specific way. In Chapter 34 it breaks down various ways in which you can be more involve in government policies being made which connect to Medina’s because her article actually shows a way in how people in Philly take actions in government policies representing the belief of Civics Engagement. Also in Medina’s article board chair Claire Robertson - Kraft stated “ Young isn’t an age range ; it’s an energy and spirit,” “The people who come are young at heart , focused on generating new ideas for the city”. This shows an example of how they taking young kids ideas to modify the future generation and make Civic Engagement a better involve belief topic for future generation to follow and carrying on throughout their life and show the public that there voice is important to be heard , who knows not only can you change your own community but you can rewrite history and its own unique way and benefit future generations.

  2. The text I found is called “ A Rotting Apple - Education Redlining in new York City” by Schott the founder of Of Public Education. This article talks about how the public school system fails to meet their responsibilities for educating more than 1 million students, particularly for african americans and latinos students in low income families. This report consist of different approaches towards increasing the graduation rate in low incomes families. The reading from this week talks about the “civic life” which is more than addressing the problem but requires participation. It requires some civic engagement on a certain topic you’re concerned about. For example i'm engaging myself in the topic i'm concerned about, education. My group and I are looking for approach in which we can out in action to increase the graduation rate for low income families. Civics engagement consist of analyzing their commitment and participation in their community. My article relates to this week’s reading in many ways. First my article talks about a topic in which can be improved how it’s affecting the community as a whole. The graduation rate of low income families especially latinos and black is affecting the community because if less people are graduating that means that the rate of dropouts will increase and will eventually affect business around the school. If less students are going to school the business around the school will lose money due to the low rate of attendance in the nearby schools. And this is where voluntary associations will interfere to make things better. Voluntary associations are people that are committed to resolve problems in their communities and take care of one another. An example of this voluntary association is the urban sociologist Dr. Pedro Noguera. He holds appointments in the department Teaching and Learning and Humanities and Social Sciences at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Development, as well as in the Department of Sociology at New York University. He states that New York City needs to renew their commitment towards ensuring the opportunity of kids in low income families. He thinks that by reforming the focus on expanding and enhancing learning opportunities rather than raising test scores will improve the graduation rate for low income families. Dr. Pedro Noguera uses statistics from two tables that shows Percentage of Students Scoring at Highest Level New York State Mathematics Grade 8 Assessment and Percentage of Students Scoring at Highest Level NAEP Reading Grade 8 Assessment. He pulls out his statistics from the table that show how latinos and black have the lowest average, 1% in mathematics grade 8 assessment and 7% in scoring at a high level reading grade 8 level. Dr. Pedro Noguera is making sure that these percentages are balanced out with other students in other ethnic groups, like asian and whites and it will eventually increase the graduation rate. My article is credible because this research report is by Michael Holzman, which is an senior research manager and an independent consultant and writer. He is also the founder of many programs for example Gateway: Paths to Adult Learning, which is a national literacy program that enabled at least 30,000 adults to learn to read.
Both article argue that the more civic engagement you do the better the benefits you get. In this week’s article it states that if you’re civic engaged then you will acquire skills such as speaking in public, organizing group, becoming more self-confident and learning how to affect decisions. In my article, A Rotting Apple- Education Redlining in New York City is states that the more programs and opportunities we create for low income families then the rate of graduation for latinos and blacks will increase. On of those opportunities is for students from low income families to have a better chance in having them get tested for eligibility for Gifted and Talented programs. The more you are engaged in your community the more benefit it will receive.

  3. The text that I found is called “United We Dream: We Won’t settle For Just The Dream Act” by Elise Foley from the huffington post. This source is related to the reading from the blog because both of them talk about how people from communities can come together and form organization that can change their community and even the world. Thats what happen when groups of undocumented young immigrants joined together nationwide and formed a group named United We Dream this then has changed the world dramatically. The Huffington Post is a credible new source because it’s known nation wide also because it is also known for having accurate new on various kinds of subjects. And Elise Foley is a credible person to trust when getting news from because she also worked at the Washington Independent another huge news source. An example from the reading that I found that can relate to this week reading is “ United We Dream, which is made up of smaller groups of undocumented young people nationwide. Although the network has always supported comprehensive reform, its primary focus has been on so-called Dreamers, who came to the United States as children and would be eligible for the Dream Act, a decade-old bill to give legal status to some of those individuals if they attended college or joined the military”. This quote is letting us know that more people are getting involved in the government and trying to change something that they believe needs to be changed. The article form this week blog post states that “ presidents seek advice of members of the public by appointing citizens commissions and committees to investigate problem and make recommendations” this lets us know that the president can’t really doing anything to better the nation unless the people bring it up to notice by forming some organization. These two sources connect because the main idea of the article from the blogpost is that people need to get more involved in the community by joining the some organizations and by doing this they can better either their community or something much bigger like a problem that is affecting millions around the world the group United We Stand from the article from the Huffington Post which is main focus is trying to help out Undocumented Immigrants achieve their citizenship. If more people join organization and speak out their idea then they might not really get what they would like because someone else that if for the opposite idea is going to support it and probably get what they want.

  4. In the article "Parental invovlemant strongly impact student achievement" by Andrew J. Houtensville, Published on may 28,2008, it explains how parents invovlment can cause a great change in how students perform in school and how they achieve new levels of knowledge with parental guidence. Andrew stated "parental effort is consistently associated with higher levels of achievment, and the magnitude of the effect of parental effort is substantial", which means that when parents got invovled in their local schools it helps the student learn more due to the encorement theyn get from parents telling them they can do anything they put their mind to. This showed that parent involment can also benifit not only the student of the school but also the community. Andrew also stated that "parents seemed particularly interested in the academic achievement of their daughters" which shows that parents beleive that their daughter will probable do better in school and achieve higher education then others. This article is credible because the article comes from the science daily online site and it has hyper links to similiar articles and the author is well known and has written simaliar aricles that shows how invovlment can benifit more than just yourself, so that you can be more than just a duty citizen and be and engaged citizen. Both article argue that the more civic engagement you do the better the benefits you get, and the more invovled you get the better the community will become cause you have started to make a diffrence in your community and make sure that it just doesnt benifit you but also everyone that wants to make a diffrence but doesnt have the courage to make a stand and speak their mind to make a diffrence. In this week’s article it states that if you’re civic engaged then you will acquire skills such as speaking in public, organizing group, becoming more self-confident and learning how to affect decisions, also that by being invovled in your community can make a big diffrence not just to the community but to the future generations that will benifit from the changes that can be made know for the better.

The text that I found was a research from North Carolina State University, titled “Nutritional Status of Low- Income Families” the text is about how people in families in low- income neighborhoods have a disadvantage on healthy food. It talks about for these families don’t have the money to spend on healthy food and are worried of running out of food, they people are food- insecure and these people have a greater risk of obesity than those who are food- secure. Also they tend to disrupt they metabolism by over eating and then fasting leading to an increase in their body weight and these people also have limited resources thus making them eat out of their house. The article also says that low- income families lack knowledge of proper food storage and handling methods. Food choices like food stamps and WIC are trying to teach their participant how to handle their food and how and what is a proper diet. This week’s article that we had to read “what is the importance od civics engagement to American constitutional democracy?” relates to the article I picked because it talk about volunteering and the idea of classical republicanism in America, doing something for the common good of the people, food security is important and that is something that people in America can work on helping to volunteer. I think that hunger and poverty are the dire help for these are two things that are over looked in America because of how privilege we are compared to other nations those we don’t tend to notice the help we need. In the article “nutritional status of Low –income Families “ is states “ food stamp participation in North Carolina has increased 26% in the past two years” this is an overwhelming amount of people and should be noticed .
The article is a credible source because it is from a university and universities can not harm their reputation by lying on their official website.

  6. 1. The website I found is called OAC(Obesity Action Coalition) The only National non-profit whose sole focus is helping individuals affected by obesity. This organization talks about how obesity is a long term condition that continues to have a growing impact on our society today. Many individuals affected by obesity often deal with physical, emotional and social issues that can make it difficult from them addressing their weight issues. Many Discrimination against individuals affected by obesity occurs in schools, workplaces, doctors’ offices and more. No person should be discriminated based on their size or weight. This organization believes facing the fact of your weight is an important first step toward making a change. People who are suffer from weight issues should work with a healthcare professional and discuss all these options before making a treatment choice.

    2. OAC(Obesity Action Coalition) connects to what we are learning in class because talks about obesity. My group are learning as much information about obesity as we can. In class we have learned about enlightened self-interest, voluntary associations contribute to make a change in that can benefit them and the community. My group is focus on how hispanics are been affected by obesity and this website talks about all the people who are been affected by obesity. This website can help my group because it talks how/why people become overweight and the problem they face form been over weight. We are also trying to find the best solution to try to mix the problem of obesity. Raise awareness of obesity in community is important because more people would get inspired to do something about it.

    3. The OAC(Obesity Action Coalition) was founded in 2005 with the goal of building a national coalition of those who are living with and/or affected by obesity. From support on capitol hill for access to obesity treatments to publishing hundreds of educational resources for individuals affected. “the OAC truly represents the voice of all those affected by obesity.” The Mission of OAC is to rise and give power to those who are affected by obesity through education, advocacy and support. As an education and advocacy organization are trying to created a society in which all individuals are treated with respect and without discrimination and people are affected by the disease of obesity can get help to safety and effective treatment options. OAC is link to “Legislative Action Center”, “Your Weight Matters” and “Recover Program” this three organizations focus on obesity and how to help those individuals.

    4. This organization wants to empower people who have overweight problems. OAC encourage people who are affected by obesity to join them to “help us strengthen our voice”. The website gives strong evidence when it states “93 million Americans are affected by obesity and that number is predicted to climb to 120 million within the next five years.” This is showing that if we don’t educate people about obesity than the number of obese people would increase later on in the future. This organization also tells us reasons why people become overweight. Physical, emotional and social issues are some factors that make people become overweight.

    5. This Organization is civically engaged because it runs on kindness of individuals. People volunteer to raise awareness on obesity which benefits the community. Obesity leads to heart disease but if people become educated on obesity than this can prevent deaths in the community. This connects to chapter 34 of “We The People” because individuals that volunteer in this organization are doing this for their own interest. By volunteering the community would be less likely to have obese people which raises living standards. This helps the person volunteering because this person will promote better lifestyles that will improve this person’s health and the health of his/her family. By volunteering people are inspiring others to involve themselves in the community which will fix more problems affecting the community.

  7. The article I found was” Politics and Aging Fact Sheet” by Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (WWICFS). In the article it describes how during the past years the voting rights have increased and then decreased then little by little increasing again. It shows how the different percentage of different race votes. It also states how the percent saying that in the future people will have to retire later.
The article relates to this week’s topic because it discusses about the voting reservations and on citizenship. Both articles talk about how the percentage of voters votes depending on their race and age and how we the United States can encourage others to vote.
This source is credible because it is a United States Presidential memorial and was named in honor of President Woodrow Wilson. He was the only President with his PH.D. Here we know the United States presidential memorial won’t give us false statement because they will be losing peoples view and there trust as well.
The author does present strong evidence to support his argument on the increase and decreasing in voting. As Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars stated” U.S voter turnout by age group in 1980 was at the age between 18-20 was about 80%, age 25-55 was 90% and 65+ was 87%. In 2000, at the age of 18-22 70% voted, 25-44 was 85% and 65+ was 90%”.here they are showing how during the past years the number of voters are changing and decreasing because in 1980 at the age of 18-22 80% voted and in 2000 70% voted. This is due to the number of people not voting anymore and the baby boomers growing up and brings the other age rate higher than it was before. It also states “Japans estimated voter turnout by age group in 1996 which at the age of 20-24 30% voted and at the age of 65-69 77% voted. In 2000 at the age of 22-24 35% voted and at the age of 65-69 80% voted”. This is important because here it’s showing how the Japanese population is increasing the percentage of people voting in the United States. This is due to the number of Japanese immigrants coming to America.
The increase of voting has been a major issue in America for many years back to the development of a government. Until we gain our independence and had the right to vote. Citizen United stated “ between 1960 and 2004 turnout of voting age citizens in elections for national officials ranged from low of 36.4% ( 1998 and 1986) to high of 63.1%(1960).turnout typically was lower in state elections and dramatically lower in local elections”. Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars will agree with citizen united because they both talk about the percentage of people voting and being more involved with the government. Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars reads, “In 1990 the percentage of voting decreases at the ages of 18-20 50% voted, 25-44 70% voted and 65+ 80% voted”. Here they state how the percentage of voters decreased from 1980 to 1990, bringing down the whole percentage of the voting rage of the 1990. This is due to the number of children hit the age to vote, not many children were born like in the 1980s when baby boomers was going on.

  8. The New York Times article that I found this week is call “Hundreds of Veterans Help Sandy Victims and Each Other” by James DAO, its about a group or veterans that have form a nonprofit organization to help people in need all around the world and in the United States. Both the class reading and the article from the New York Times are similar in witch that they both have to do with engaged citizens are not only fixing problems in their community but also are helping people around the world. Also just like in the reading the people in the article are using self-interest of new veterans wanting to fit back into their community to better the community. The New York Times is a well known newspaper that not only provides news to New York but to the world and if they give fouls information they will lose supporters. The arthur James DAO has been with the New York Times since 1992 and he only writes on the military and on veterans. James DAO supports his article by providing a link to the nonprofit organization call Team Rubicon and quotes from one of the founders who is name William McNulty. Also he states donations that have been given to Team Rubicon by corporations like Jetblue and Goldman Sachs. Engaged citizens are not only fixing problems in the U.S but also in the world that they feel that they can do on their own. “Joanne Dennis, decided it should think about responding to domestic events as well.” Team Rubicon used to go to different countries like Haiti to help them out but they have realized that the U.S also need their help. Other organizations are looking for problems that they can fix that they feel that they can fix with no help from the government. “Americans sought to rely on their own efforts to solve problems...” As the citizens become more engaged they will be less dependent to the government and will be able to fix more problems that not only the U.S has but the World.

  9. The article that I found for this week in the New York Times is called “Curtailing a Service That Parents Depend On” by Michael Winerip. This article talks about how the Mayor proposes cutting after-school programs every year and the city council comes to the rescue at the last minute of decision and saves money for these programs. It also talks about how parents and people who run after school programs would be affected by these changes if done in the future. This article connects to We the People chapter four because people fighting for after school programs not to be cut, fall under the service and business organizations mentioned in We the People. This text is a credible source because it comes from the New York Times a well known news paper in the city. It is one of the city’s most trusted newspapers because it publishes accurate information for everyone to read. Winerip’s position in the article is not clear. He does a good job of stating both sides in the beginning of the article. After the first page Winerip does a good job of showing the side he supports without actually stating he does. He also does a good job of showing the actual data on how many after school programs are around the city, how much we spend and how that will change drastically if the mayors proposal is passed. Winerip writes “ programs that run from 3 to 6 p.m. at 454 sites, serving 53,000 elementary, middle and high school students and costing $90 million; the proposal is to reduce that to 261 sites, serving 27,000 children for $71 million” He writes statics like this one to show the difference there will be if the mayor goes with the proposal. We the People and this week’s article aim to show good citizenship. In We the People there are examples of different types of citizenship's that people belief in. In the Winerip’s article it shows people sticking up for what they feel is right. In this case it’s adults fighting to keep after school programs and potentially adding more. This is a form of citizenship because they are standing up for something they think should be fought against. After school programs are important for kids.

  10. The article I found is "Stop and Frisk, The Human Rights Impact" written by The Center for Constitutional Rights. This article contains information that stop and frisk has bad effects in our community and as and individual. Citizen's like us should be more involved in our community and as an individual and come with a solution. "While nine out of ten stops do not result in any arrest or summons, everyone subject to a stop and frisk must cope with the emotional, psychological, social and economic impact on their lives." By Center for Constitutional Rights. Due to the effects of stop and frisk as individual and a community cause many people are being stop and frisk with out having nothing or looking suspect. Through the years we have seen the civic participating in the common good to make a stop and frisk. "Civic participation is one of the ways Americans strengthen the networks of interdependence and contribute to the common good" by We The People. This have lead to many people getting more involve with the community and not just trying to help them self as an individual but serve for their community too. The article I found online is credible because its branched stopandfrisk.org a universal website that is strongly trusted. These articles are showing both sides of how individuals and the community is being more involve. Stop and Frisk has become a problem and people are trying to stop it and being more involve with their communities so the violation of stop and frisk could stop.

  11. The article I read was about The Dreamers wanting more than just The Dream Act.They want to be able to attend college but also want access to health care and safe working conditions. They want to have equal protection under the law. This text connect to the class text because it is about civil engagement. There are social organizations to help these undocumented students like The Dreamers. The class text talks about civil engagement and how it is important. This text is credible because it is from a well known news source which is the Huffington Post. The author does provide strong evidence for the argument. For example the United We Dream director said something about what the dreamers need. She said that “That’s the way that politicians in D.C. want to frame this debate, but the local leaders of United We Dream have really decided to set our own terms for this debate.”President Obama said that he would help with The Dream Act but nothing has been done yet. The text that I read says that “there isn’t true commitment to work on real change and policies that reflect the values and principles of our communities.” The government says that they will help undocumented immigrants but there are millions of immigrants who still can’t attend college. In the class text it says that “associations engaged in civic projects are motivated by a commitment to making their communities and the world better places to live. Both of these articles show that people are civically engaged to help people and feel like they did something right. This also shows that we the people have the power to help those in need .These undocumented immigrants need help from the citizens to have their voices heard. With the help of the citizens The Dream Act can be passed.

  12. The organization which I came across that connected to both "Chapter 34" from Public Agenda and my policy issue was a short article called "Fighting Police Abuse: A Community Action Manual" by the American Civil Liberties Union. This article connects to "Chapter 34" from Public Agenda since both articles disucuss how civilians can get involved with their community issues and fighting against them, through civic engagement. "Chapter 34" connects to "Fighting Police Abuse: A Community Action Manual" since they both talk about how civilians can get involved in their local communities to help out and lend a hand as to stopping acts of violence. In American Civil Liberties Union article it includes various ways civilans can get involved in order to stop police brutality. Ways which invlolve, "Build Coalitions, Monitor the Police, Use Open Records Laws, Educate the Public,Use the Political Process to Win Reforms, Lobby For State Legislation." In the article it also states the common goals for these organizations which are, "A Civilian Review Board, Control of Police Shootings, Reduce Police Brutality, End Police Spying, Oversight of Police Policy, Improved Training, Equal Employment Opportunity, Certification and Licensing of Police Officers, Accreditation of Your Police Department." This article is credible becuase it was published on December 7, 1997 by the American Civil Liberties Union, which is a national news print organization. The publisher of this article presentes a valid arguement when stating, "The fact that police abuse remains a significant problem does not mean there has been no progress." The author makes various interpretations and gives examples of of how civilans can get involved in oublic organizations which fight against issues which violate human rights.

  13. The article, ”Poor Schools Struggling to Meet State Standards, Years After Critical Ruling” by Vivian Lee, informs the reader that some schools haven’t been able to hire teachers to help the kids who are slower learners than the other students. Lee also explains that the catalyst to these problems. The texts “Poor Schools Struggling to Meet State Standards, Years After Critical Ruling” and “Chapter 34 of We The People” talk about how everyday life for students can be improved by civic engagement. Lee states “None were offering the minimum amount of support services for struggling students, like remedial after-school programs.”, meaning that no teacher was willing to take the time to help and tutor students who need more time than others to learn. “Chapter 34 of We The People” states “Working with others in civic activities frequently makes people aware of other perspectives and leads to a concern for the common good.” That means that if people become more willing to help out when help is needed, than more and more people will become more aware of what needs to be fixed. This source is credible because it is from The New York Times, by putting any false quotes or information on they’re website would ruin they’re reputation of being on of the top news sources nationally and internationally. Lee uses strong evidence to prove her argument by using statistics and by quoting organizations like The New York City Department of Education, which is also a credible source. Lee writes “ It said that 5 of the 33 were not meeting state requirements in social studies, and that 3 fell short of minimum standards in math. Schools could not keep up with standards in art, occupational studies, health and physical education”. Here Lee uses statistics to show how many kids are behind standards in their academic classes. Both Lee and the author of We The People would agree that something has to be done about the kids falling behind in their classes. The author of We The People would say that a non-profit organization needs to be made to dedicate all of their money and time into helping students get back on track in their academic classes. Lee would say that schools should be better funded in order to hire teachers to help the slower learners. But in the end, both authors would put the kids first.

  14. The article I found was titled Weight Loss: What's the Point? by Lisa Turner. This was published on 04/22/2012. This article is mostly about making your point on losing weight. This connects to this weeks topic on Civic engagements in American lives because there are organizations that are taking responsibilities and supporting minors and other Americans. This article I found is credible because it's from the Huffington Post. Also the author Lisa is a food writer, nutrition consultant and developer of Inspired Eats. One example from her article is " Losing weight is not your life's work, and counting calories is not the call of your soul." This shows that people really care for the weight. They really don't want to be fat at all no one does. This relates to Chapter 34 from this weeks reading because "service and business organizations have different organizations such as the Lions club international support vision and health screenings." This is beneficial because this leads to awarding scholarships and this is all involved with community service, which means you volunteer to do things for the community. This results to Nongovernmental organizations where they "depend primarily on charitable donations". Also this can make a community more aware on whats going on, but mostly to the people who are participants on the organization.
Making your point whether to lose or gain weight is your choice in your life, not others, but only the elected ones for government make the law, not you. Based on Chapter 34, one way in order to make your choice is by being "engaged in civic activities and vote". This shows that voting is a good thing in the community because there are many personal benefits for that such as " Acquiring skills, like debating in public and organizing groups." Lisa agrees by stating "Now, if your weight is a health issue, if it's shortening your years or hampering your ability to enjoy your life." This shows that Lisa agrees with what the author of chapter 34 says because you won't be able to enjoy yourself and this means that your benefits won't be accomplished for example voting and being able to be heard while you speak. Therefore having a democracy now in America there's always a path to make yourself heard and not left on the backside and saying what your point really is.

  15. The article i chosed this week is called “Red Tape” by Scott Stringer a local political in the area. I chosed this article because it’s helping find some resourceful information for my next paper which is about obesity and provides me how the local leader is helping to make change in Manhattan community. I found it interesting that in “NYC is faced with a health crisis: 700,000 new yorkers have diabetes and over 3.1 million resident are obese or overweight, as are 43 percent of elementary schools”. I found this quote interesting because when I read this it made think that most of the kids and adults that are obese are found in the Heights because we live in a low income area and there are not a lot of healthy markets around here like there would be in the high income area. The reason why there isn’t that many health food markets in our area is because they cost too much and we can’t afford it and theres more healthy markets in high income area because they can afford it. This text connects to this week text since Scott Stringer is our local leader he will help us with anything we want and but we just have to inform him with what we want to change. My text is similar to this week text because in “We the people” states that “Their involvement broadens their understanding of issues facing their community and the country, making them more thoughtful and informed than most of those who are not involved”. So this is trying to say that as a community they can meet up and sharing their understanding with one another and get more knowledge therefore sharing their ideas with there leaders. My text is credible because is coming from a local leader of Manhattan Scott Stringer and he would not give any false statements. Scott Stringer was raised in upper Manhattan , graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1983 and took the office of local government of Manhattan January 1 2006. The author does not really prove his argument because he stated that “This is more then eight times what the green carts program charges vendors to operate in the same neighborhoods for a two year period”. So when I read this it made me think that he does not want the Red Tape to happen and that we should stick to the Green Carts which is more cheaper and beneficial to the low income community. My text is similar to this week text because when I read the “We The People” I read that “ Local government touch the lives of every american by providing the essential governmental services people need to live together day to day”. When I read this quote it connects to my text because the local government leader Scott Stringer is thanking different programs and people for helping him succeed and pass on information.

  16. http://articles.latimes.com/2012/oct/05/opinion/la-oe-hall-twentysomethings-economics-20121005

The article I read is called “High stakes for young voters” by Keith Hall. This text is about how young people face hard times because of the economy and so our vote for president has to be a wise decision for a president who will help young people as unemployment is high and those who find jobs will still be hit by recession as wages are lower than they have been in older years. This text is relevant to our class reading as our class reading talks about voting and importance of voting. Its relevance is shown throughout the article because it says that young people should vote for candidate who will benefit you more. This article is credible as it is from the Los Angeles times. The latimes has been distributing news daily since 1881 and is the fourth most widely distributed newspaper in the country. The author, Keith Hall shows use of strong evidence throughout his paper to demonstrate the impact of the recession on job wages, unemployment, promotion rates, etc… For example, Hall states that unemployment is high for young Americans by saying” A better measure of employment is the employment ratio — the share of the working-age population that has a job. That figure bottomed out in late 2009, when only 58.2% of working-age Americans had jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Today, three years into the recovery, that number has barely budged: 58.3%”. These texts connect as they both would agree that citizens should be more engaged in organizations so that they better themselves and their nation. The class text would support this with the quote” Those who participate actively in civic life are more likely to vote. They also are more likely to become well-informed voters. My article would support this argument by saying that young voters are educated than those who don’t vote. This level of education will lead to better chance of finding a job and succeeding in this country. Therefore both texts would support the argument that should be more engaged in organizations so that they better themselves and their nation. Being better educated voters help themselves and vise versa help the nation as the correct candidate will be chosen.

  17. http://allthingsd.com/20121003/americas-town-hall-moves-online/

In the article “America’s Town Hall Moves Online” by Stephen J. Rohleder, talks about how both citizens and governmental officials are using the social media to be more interactive with each other. Four years ago, the social media played a critical role in the elections and it has become evident that public officials are now transitioning to the social world to communicate with their citizens. This article connects to We the People chapter 34 because the chapter explains that those who participate in civic life are most likely to vote and are “well-informed voters”. A connection between both is shown in the article. Rohleder writes “according to a survey by Accenture of citizens in seven countries, including the United States, 50 percent believe that being able to interact digitally with government would encourage them to become more engaged and would make government more transparent”. Confirming that both agree on citizens who are engaged in government, understand what's going on with it. Rohleder does prove his argument by giving examples of public officials benefiting from the social media. Rohleder writes “Recognizing the opportunity to engage the digital generation in the democratic process, the state of Washington took the unprecedented step in July of becoming the first U.S. state to allow eligible residents to register to vote in this year’s election through Facebook.” This shows the transition of officials interacting with citizens by following what intrigues them. Both We the People chapter 34 and Rohleder’s article agree that citizen participation is important. In chapter 34, “Participation helps individuals become attached to their communities, regions, and states as well as the country as a whole.” Today, participation is shown through the interactions through social media, making it more efficient for people to show opinions or even vote. Americans are more engaged in civic participation to better their community. Americans put effort into making sure that issues are resolved by creating organizations that benefit them and an example is the social media, even though it can be seen as a public way of an organization, it is effectively making more people interact with their government.
Stephen J. Rohleder is group chief executive for Accenture’s global Health & Public Service business, a global management consulting, technology services, and outsourcing company.

  18. The article I found, " Stop and Frisk: The Human Impact" by the Center for Constitutional Rights, contains a mass of information on the effects of stop and frisks on individuals, on communities and on the nation as a whole. The article starts off by explaining the different kinds of profound impact the stop and frisk policy has on the victims. It's credibility lies in the fact that the Center for Constitutional Rights is dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Founded in 1966 by attorneys who represented civil rights movements in the South, CCR is a non-profit legal and educational organization committed to the creative use of law as a positive force for social change. Their work began on behalf of civil rights activists, and over the last four decades CCR has lent it's expertise and support to virtually every popular movement for social justice.
CCR is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and actively recruits people of color, women, persons with disabilities, and persons with diverse gender and sexual identities. Although lacking in solutions, it's connection to this week article is more of a cause and effect. This week's article is primarily solutions that a engaged citizen, once being fully engaged, should take while the source I found are the causes, the impacts of stop and frisk emotionally, psychologically, physically and economically, as proven when they say in the article "While nine out of ten stops do not result in any arrest or summons, everyone subject to a stop and frisk must cope with the emotional, psychological, social and economic impact on their lives." by the CCR. Knowing that the CCR gathered all this information based on actual statistics gathered from their research and interviews on the victims, this piece of evidence goes to show how unjustified the stop and frisk rules are. As a engaged citizen who has also been stopped and frisked, I feel that the stop and frisk policy has much harmful effects than beneficial ones. Later in the article from CCR, they explain how some groups experience much more violence when stopped than other ethnic groups. This is a major claim showing how unjustified and negative the policy is. In accordance to this weeks article, "Civic participation is one of the ways Americans strengthen the networks of interdependence and contribute to the common good" by We The People, I think that if we were able to veto the current policy and change the policy, than the stop and frisk would become much more beneficial and safety would actually be employed.

  19. The article I read this week was “Stop and Frisk The Human Impact” written by the Center For Constitutional Right it speaks about different individuals that have been stopped and frisked and have felt violated from their rights. The authors of this text interviewed different individuals and this are some of the experience they went through “my jeans were ripped I had bruises on my face my whole face was swollen.I was to the precinct for disorderly conduct”(5).This demonstrates how abusive police officers are during a stop and frisk and do things that aren’t permitted when searching an individual. This article connects to another text that I have read this week called “New Stop-and-Frisk Reports Show Decline in Street Interrogations, Steady Rate of Innocent People Stopped” written by the New York Liberty Union .These two articles connect because they both speak about the damages stop and frisk are causing. As said in this article “the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk program continues to have a 90 percent failure rate...during the first three quarters of the year, police stopped innocent New Yorkers 392,897 times”.With these two quote from these different text makes you come to a conclusion that individuals do not trust the NYPD, this may cause more violence and commotion among people in the street. This text is credible because it was taken out a website that is from a university that had many viewers and if they publish a lie they are the one’s that are going to lose money. Also they have quoted expects such as individuals that have gone through this search. The Center of constitutional Rights use strong evidence because they give statistics in order to prove their argument. This is shown then in the article states “criminal convictions can result in becoming ineligible for public housing or student loans and losing public benefits”(7).This quotes is evidence of some of the strong evidence the author uses to prove their argument and demonstrate how Stop and frisk can ruin your future.

  20. The organization I found out about was the Stop And Frisk Protest by thousands of people in New York City founded in the huffingtonpost. This was a protest towards the act of stop and frisk caused by local police in poor neighborhoods. These people decided that the police was engaging in racial profiling since they mostly target people of color or Spanish and black decent. This connects to the reading of Chapter 34 from We The People because its a way of fighting back towards something people believe isn't right towards their people's belief. Also it connects because its a way to organize people to fight for what they believe. This source is credible cause both sources connect towards each other and they show how people could make a difference.

  21. 1.The article that I have found comes from The New York Times. This article starts explaining how some universities/ colleges have started a new process to be able to vote. Mentions as well some difficulties that these colleges are having with this new voting registration system. It also mentions how this process is faster than any other registration and would like to expand the idea further toward the rest of the nation colleges.

2.This text connects to this week’s topic because it includes civic engagement. It shows how people are trying to contribute to their society but in this case is not an ordinary society but their college society. This week is not only stating to try to improve but as well the interest toward politics. This is why the universities are trying to engaged the rest of the students to register early to be able to vote and have a candidate or new president that would represent them great.

3.This article is credible because it comes from the New York Times official website. This newspaper company is known to give the New Yorkers the latest news and the news that a needed to known with the best information and well detailed. Not only the website is credible but as well the author. He also has written some other well-known newspaper companies like Chicago Magazine and Pittsburg Post-Gazatte. The author is STEVEN YACCINO and gives the best inside scoop.

4.Steven Yaccino gives strong evidence for his argument. It can be improved with few more statistics but still descent enough for the public. Yaccino gets some testimony from some students and directors from other universities and some other student body government. The evidence that Yaccino, isn’t only from one college but others around the nation. It also includes some numbers coming from the colleges itself.

5.The reading mentions how some of the people of this generation aren’t participating much in politics and young adults aren’t voting as much as they expected. It also states how the voting system has evolved over the past years by being able to vote around your community. In We the People: Chapter 34 mentions, “Americans are considering other ways to make it easier to vote”. There have been major improvements toward ways to vote. Not only to be able to vote but as well registration because many of the young adults aren’t voting as much because they forget to register or lack of interest. But in the article “ College Take a Leap Into Voter Registration” mentions, “Roughly 11 million eligible voters ages 18 to 24 are in college, about a quarter of all eligible young voters”. This as improved because of how other are leading to a better community and to the nation. It actually shows a major change toward government if this number of voters keeps growing.

  22. The article I read this week is call “vindicating the victims of police” by Alexis Agathocleous. This article talks about a meeting that happens in June that took place in Vera. At this meeting there were two assistant attorneys general for civil rights, two veteran civil right division attorneys and the current chief Bill Lann Lee. At the meeting they spoke about cases where police brutality had occurred and the types of people cops like to abuse. In this article they also speak about different news and solutions that promise to put an end to police brutality. They speak about different organizations that put in money in to different programs to help inform people about their natural rights. In the reading we did this week from the book “we the people” they discussed the importance of participating on a civic life in order to achieve goals not just for the individual but for the community, state or even the entire nation. They also explain the different types of organizations that help out different causes get fix happen or make some kind of change. They connect because in order to make a change in police brutality, people need to join organizations to learn about their rights or to teach others about the rights they have to hopefully stop police brutality or at least decrease it in our neighborhoods. The reading teaches about the importance of joining organizations that could cause a common change that a lot of people want. In this case people want police brutality to stop . The article I found is credible because Vera.org is an independent, non partisan, non profit organization for justice policy. Vera also has different locations all over the United States. The organization is run by experts that develop policies and programs in a variety of criminal and social justice fields. Also the author Alexis Agathocleus is a Yale graduate that now works as a staff attorney at the center for constitutional rights. He also works on the Government Misconduct and Racial Justice docket. Agathocleous also is lead counsel in Aref v. holder challenging policies and conditions at the federal Bureau of prisons Communications Management Units. The author uses important people to prove his argument. At the beginning of the article he quotes Attorney general, Marshall Burke. The author basis his article on a conference that happen on Vera that was filled with attorneys and people that are highly educated on the subject. The author also names highly know organizations that support Vera and their plan to try and stop police brutality. For example they mention the J.L foundation that keeps on funding Vera’s efforts with 100,000 grants. Both the article and the reading explain the importance of living a civic life and that in order to have some kind of change we need to live a civic life and inform others about it.

  23. http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/162341/alianza-dominicana-fights-to-keep-doors-open

The article called “Alianza Dominicana Fights to Keep Doors Open” by Polly Kreisman describes how the famous organization in Manhattan is fighting to maintain their group open, avoiding to affect children’s lives and hobbies. This article connects to this week’s text because both pieces of literature describe how local governments are important for both parents and children. For example, in this week’s text titled: Chapter 34 from We the People, states that, “Local governments touch the lives of every American by providing the essential government services people need to live together day to day”. This is similar to what the article is saying because parents are touched that Alianza Dominicana is about to be removed and the reason they are touched is because parents are wondering what is going to happen with their children after Alianza Dominicana is taken away. This article is credible because it’s from an organization called NY1, which is a very popular news organization that also has its own channel on television. If false information is ever posted from one of the authors, their numbers of viewers will drastically decrease. Polly Kreisman presents strong evidence to support her argument in many ways. For instance, she uses various examples and opinions of residents in Washington Heights. In the article, Kreisman states that Giselle Perez, a community resident says, “It’s unfortunate because a lot of our youth, that’s that we need right now. We need to find jobs for the youth. It’s a place of security. It keeps them out of the street.” This demonstrates how parents are worried about their children’s next steps they would take and how would it affected themselves as well. Another example Kreisman shows is when local resident Frances Fantino states that, “It discourages everybody. It gives you a bad taste in your mouth when they buy a building and they promise it will be for the community and they don’t deliver”. This indicates that parents are also disappointing at the Alianza Dominicana organization for not maintaining their organization in an organized way because if they would’ve had everything organized and paid on time, this wouldn’t be occurring. Both the pieces of literature build a strong connection towards each other. In this week’s text, it mentions that it depends on the citizens on taking an active role and these types of officials dealing with local governments are volunteers. When Alianza Dominicana decided to be created, they created themselves for the benefit of the kids. Most of the kids don’t have anything to do after school and parents were relieved with this after school program because Alianza Dominicana kept their kids entertained with something to do. This kept children outside from violence and bad influence that exists in the street. Now, with this devastating news that this after school program has a chance of closing, children might have a difficult time being placed at another location where both education and entertainment will be provided to them.

  24. The article “The Education Gap In Youth Civic Engagement” by Robyn Gee, discusses the issue of those who is more active in their neighborhood by being a role model and help for the welfare of the community, and those who don’t. Robyn Gee points out a key point in his article by comparing and contrasting those who have a college education and those who are dropouts of high school, analysing that college students are more aware and oftenly be more politically involved in their neighborhood. Gee also focuses on the gap between the uneducated and those who are, by surmising that more individuals are regularly voting more often and researching on community problems if they are in college or college graduates.

Both the article “The Education Gap In Youth Civic Engagement” and the reading “Civic Engagement” from We The People, by Russell Dalton discuss how individuals can be aware of multiple problems affecting their community and solving their problems by volunteering for their own welfare and for the common good of the community. Moreover, the article “The Education Gap In Youth Civic Engagement” discusses how those who are uneducated are unaware of how much political power they have, this is because of the lack of knowledge they have by not pursuing a college degree.

This article is credible because Robyn Gee connects this article to statistics published from Tufts University’s article "How Out-of-School Youth Engage In Civic Life and What Stands In Their Way", showing how he himself relates his research to a University's, adding to how well written this article is by using data from both his experiences and Tufts University. Furthermore the publisher of this article is credible because The Huffington Post is an American website that was founded in 2005 which covers politics and has a high reputation, being #1 on the 15 Most Popular Political Sites over the internet for local news, having blogs and personal bios of writers.

Robyn Gee gives the reader a set of statistical data from Tufts University and a link to to the article to exemplify his research about this generation of college students and their engagement in government by voting, versus the ones who aren’t engaged in political practices. He states, “Twelve percent of young people without college experience had been contacted by a campaign, but 18 percent of young people with college experience had been contacted by a campaign”, this of data shows the gap between the power of those who are educated and have a more important role in government because they are able to comprehend what issues affect them.

Both “The Education Gap In Youth Civic Engagement” and the reading “Civic Engagement” from We The People discuss how humanity should be politically involved in their society in order for them to choose who they want to be governed by. This could explain why public organizations donate to colleges so they can raise awareness for political leaders. Gee states, “this looks different than civic engagement on a college campus, where there is often an Office of Civic Engagement, or a Center for Social Justice. Kiesa said institutions of higher education have made an investment in engaging the students on their campus. And politicians invest in college campuses too” (Gee). Showing that the more campuses are politically aware in government, they donate more to raise political awareness, showing a constant growing cycle to grow awareness. With the increased funding from organizations
“voters [can] make informed decisions about who should be governor, who should hold other executive offices, and who serve in legislature” (We The People), which increases the chances college students can participate in government.

  25. My article “Making Healthy Food More Accessible For Low-Income People” by Farm and Food Policy Project talks about how the obesity in the United States is increasing especially in poor neighborhoods because of the availability they have to healthy food. Also how programs that help low income people with food such as food stamps should be expanded and public transportation improved for easier access to supermarkets so that these people have more access to healthy foods and increasing the minimum food stamps benefit. This article connects to this week’s topic because they have to do with classical republicanism and the good of the common people which in the case of the article I found is the healthy food accessibility. This issue is also leading to obesity and other diseases that with engaged citizenship can be changed. My source is credible because its from the “Farm and Food Policy Project” which is a program that try to make sure that people of low income have more access to healthier foods and the prices are made more affordable for them also. This policy project is also allied with more than 400 organizations that have advanced policies. The author presents strong evidence in this reading because he/she provides evidence that enough is not being done in order to provide low income Americans with the healthy nutritious food that they deserve. Also describes how even the improvement of transportation is needed and how when gas prices go up it prevents these Americans from going to supermarkets that sell these healthy products. Both readings relate back to helping the common american to have a better life which can be either by volunteer work, voting, starting organizations etc. Implying that more american citizens should get more involved to help each other.

  26. The article Poor Schools Struggling to Meet State Standards, Years After Critical Ruling is about how New york State schools in low-income areas are being close down after the “Landmark ruling which required New York Schools to increase spending on education”, schools are closing due to the fact that either they are not meeting city standards for classes being given or they don't have enough money to found the education for kid. This article also touches on the resection which lead to false promises on government spending on education.

Poor Schools Struggling to Meet State Standards, Years After Critical Ruling relates to my group research on NY Graduation rate because this text shows that due to the lack of funds given to NY school which results in low achieving and both my group research and this text highlight the low achievements in NY school in low-income area.

This text is credible because is from the New York Times a all around new source providers for New yorkers and this text was published by Vivian Lee.Vivian Lee Attended Harvard College and received her PH.D in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Rockefeller University. This results in Vivian Lee to be a credible.

Vivian Lee provides strong evidence in this article because she uses State court rulings such as United state State Court of Appeals in 2006 which ended battle that is more than a decade old, over the amount financing of poor schools in New york State in order to make her argument clear on how although these court cases were meant to help New york schools, because the resection its been a struggle to meet the needs of the schools.

Both Chapter 34 from We the People and Poor Schools Struggling to Meet State Standards, Years After Critical Ruling connect because both speak on being a Engage self-interest. The individual in Poor Schools Struggling to Meet State Standards, Years After Critical Ruling , Michael A. Rebell fought the court case in order to provide more funding for schools this not only helps his future offspring but also kids in the state of new york who aren't as fortunate as other.

  27. 1. The article I found is called Take Care New York. Take Care New York 2012 is a comprehensive health policy for New York City. It lays out the health department’s plans to help all New Yorkers live longer and healthier lives. And it offers ideas for how individuals can improve their own health, and how organizations can help them do it.

2.The text I found connects to my issue on health because it talks about how New York City has health issues. It also talks about solutions to solving health problems for example Promoting Quality Health Care for All , being Tobacco free, promoting physical Activity and healthy eating and being heart healthy. This article also relates to my issue because my issue is about obesity and food choices. Take Care New York is trying to persuade people to be more active and to eat healthier food, causing people not to become obese. And or causing people who are obese to change and become healthier.

3.My text is credible because major Bloomberg wrote a letter supporting Take New York. It's important that Bloomberg supports Take Care New York because he's the major of New York."Take Care New York 2012 focuses intently on leading causes of preventable illness and premature death in New York City. It tackles killers such as heart disease, cancer, obesity and HIV/AIDS – and it sets out practical strategies for addressing underlying risk factors, from smoking and heavy alcohol consumption to the lack of access to wholesome food and safe places to exercise." This is from the letter Bloomberg wrote stated that Take Care New York 2012 is doing well in making New York a healthier place by tackling the problem with health in New York and finding a way around it/ solution. My text is also credible because its from the NYC.gov website a government issue website for New Yorkers. NYC.gov is a main source for government information in the state of New York.

4.This article provides strong evidence because it states a lot of graphing statistics about how manny people are obese in New York and how many people smoke in New York. It also shows strong statistic about how many people have died of HIV/Aids and how many people have actually been tested for HIV/Aids. 63.2 New Yorkers have been tested for HIV/Aids and Take Care New York predict that there will be a 14 percent increase this year. They also say that 22.1 percent of the people in New York are obese. And that percentage have not increase. These statistic are gathered from groups of individuals from the actual state of New York.

    5. My text relates to the weeks reading because all the individuals who participated in the statistic are engaged in the community. The individual who participated in the statistic made a difference within the community by just an wearing questions about their health. This organization is engaged because it involves all kind of individuals people volunteer to raise awareness on obesity which benefits the community. Obesity leads to other problems but if people become educated they can overcome obesity and won't allow obesity, therefore be healthy and promote healthiness.

  28. The article i found this week is called “Gov. Cuomo, Gov. Christie and Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy demand quick action from Congress to provide $60 billion in disaster aid for states devastated by Sandy” on NYdailynews.com. This article is talking about three Governors from New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey, who are frustrated with the real slow progress the national government has done to aid the victims from Hurricane Sandy. They are demanding $60 million in disaster aid to help the states affected by Sandy.
This article relates to this weeks reading Chapter 34 from “Civic Engagement”. This relates to the section called “How Americans can participate in the national government”. The reading says “Presidents also seek the advice of members of the public by appointing Citizen commissions and committees to investigate problems and make recommendations.” this relates a lot to the the article because it explains why the Governors are reaching out the National government. They represent the state therefore they represent the victims of Sandy, it is their duty as the speaker for the people to report the problem and find a solution.
In the article the article the Governor of New York say that “This region is the most critical platform for American business and the largest contributor to federal tax revenues, It has been badly shaken ... with extraordinary economic and physical damage that must be quickly recovered or we risk deeper, permanent losses. We urge you to support the emergency supplemental budget request submitted by the President without delay.” The Governors are basically asking for help not only for the people but because they all agreed that getting these regions affected by the area fixed will be beneficial for Americans, since they are important businesses located there. The council that represents Staten Island and Brooklyn stated “People have homes and people paid a lot of money from their homes,You can’t just take it away.” Clearly the people feel that it is a necessity for the communities living there to be having some financial aid from the government.
The article i found is credible because it comes from a large newspaper organization. The nydailynews is one of the most read newspaper in New York City, giving diverse news ranging from crimes in the tri-state area, and the world, to media and and other issues that are still considered news.

The article I found is called "How to stop police brutality" by Casey Gane-McCalla . In the Huffington post article, Gane-McCalla gives advice on how we can stop police brutality. He advises us to get a community to form a non-violent protest in front of police stations or government venues such as city hall or the Mayor's office, This would raised the awareness of the issue like the death of Trayvon Martin. This connects to this weeks topic on how we can make a difference in our community and Gane-McCalla gives us great advice on what to do in changing what goes on in our communities. This article is considered creditable because it is coming from a well known political news organization. The author Casey Gane-McCalla, is graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Political Science. The writer did not provide evidence on instances when people did protest on these situations ,or even show any statics on New York brutality. At least he gives us an organization that we can reference to on the issue of NYPD mistreatment. In this weeks reading "We the people" chapter 34 Civil Engagement and the article that i found does encourage us on speaking up on the communities and voting officials that best represent on our issue. The first change we have to take is in the local government and have top level politicians make our voices be heard. If we get enough people to go support your issue it can make a huge change just like the civil rights movement.

  30. The National PTA association was created to encourage and inform the citizens of the United States to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

This week's text Chapter 34 from We the People: What is the Importance of Civic Engagement to American Constitutional Democracy relates to my political organization resource at pta.org because they discuss the ways that Americans can participate in civic life to help achieve the ideals they have set for themselves and their nation

Throughout the week we’ve had discussions as to how we as young adults/teenagers will try to make a change in our society to help other people out especially those in need like the victims of Sandy as to whom some are still in need of help because they either do not have a place to live, food to eat, heat and/or electricity. There are three categories that a person can relate to, the personally responsible citizen (acts responsibly in his/her community by recycling, volunteering, staying out of debt, works, pays taxes, obeys laws, help those in need, and much more), the participatory citizen (participate in the civic affairs and the social life of the community at local, state, and national levels), and finally the justice oriented citizen (critically assess social, political, and economic structures and consider collective strategies for change that challenge injustice and, address root causes of water: they research and do something about it!).

The National PTA association is a credible resource because it serves as a useful information webpage that helps in many ways to create a better community for the future generation by creating an environment that is safe and reliable to the children of today.

PTA has values that will make a change into our nation.

Collaboration: We work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to accomplish our agreed-upon goals.
Commitment: We are dedicated to promoting children’s health, well-being, and educational success through strong parent, family, and community involvement.
Accountability: We acknowledge our obligations. We deliver on our promises.
Respect: We value our colleagues and ourselves. We expect the same high quality of effort and thought from ourselves as we do from others.
Inclusivity: We invite the stranger and welcome the newcomer. We value and seek input from as wide a spectrum of viewpoints and experiences as possible.
Integrity: We act consistently with our beliefs. When we err, we acknowledge the mistake and seek to make amends.
Therefore, Chapter 34 of We the People and the National PTA association demonstrates visuals of good deeds that result to a better more understanding society that speaks up and acts out any situations that aren’t acceptable. Volunteering and participating in our society will not change if people do not make the willpower to stand up and attend to events that will better our society.

  31. he article i found this week is called “Gov.
The governors are like a chosen voice from the people. When the people feel that there is a problem they seek out to the Governor who has a say for them, at the situation they are the Governors have no other option but to seek help from the National Government
The council that represents Staten Island and Brooklyn stated “People have homes and people paid a lot of money from their homes,You can’t just take it away.” The people of these affected neighborhood are fed up for the fact they spoken their voice. Which makes the government look weak because they haven't been able to come up with a solution, even after all the media attention the situation has attracted.
The article i found is credible because it comes from a large newspaper organization. The nydailynews is one of the most read newspaper in New York City, giving diverse news ranging from crimes in the tri-state area, and the world, to media and and other issues that are still considered news.

The text that I found was a research from North Carolina State University, titled “Nutritional Status of Low- Income Families” the text is about how people in families with low- income neighborhoods have a disadvantage on healthy food. It talks about these families don’t have the money to spend on healthy food and are worried of running out of food, these people are food- insecure and these people have a greater risk of obesity than those who are food- secure.
Hunger and poverty are two things that are over looked in America because of how privilege we are compared to other nations those we don’t tend to notice the help we need. In the article “nutritional status of Low –income Families “ is states “ food stamp participation in North Carolina has increased 26% in the past two years” this is an overwhelming amount of people and should be noticed .
We as a community in America do not do enough to take care of this problem. The individual has a big part to do with it, if you know you are someone in any of these situation , why not try to fix it? There's a lot of complaining but not a lot of fixing what you are complaining about. Having civic engagement will help you and the people around you. If you don't have a voice, you don't have nothing. So one must let their voice be heard when they are dissatisfied with the way things are going.
This text is extremely relevant because it is affecting the country as a whole. We are becoming an overweight nation that doesn't acknowledge that fact that we are over weight thus making it a never ending cycle. Things like not having healthy food available to all the masses is a reason why such thing such as obesity and death caused by overweight has happened.
The article is a credible source because it is from a university and universities can not harm their reputation by lying on their official website. To be specific The University of North Carolina the University of North Carolina is a research school. It is a very well know University with a good reputation, lying on their research that they did would be a great disappointment and would affect them extremely negatively.
